Nigerian music stars Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr and Omah Lay all returned home without a plaque at the 2026 Grammy Awards on Sunday.

Despite their strong showing in several categories, Nigerian artistes failed to win a single award, leaving South Africa’s Tyla clinching Best African Music Performance for Push 2 Start.

This marks Tyla’s second victory in the category since its introduction in 2024, when she emerged the inaugural recipient of the award with Water. The singer’s repeat achievement underscores her growing influence on the African music scene.

In the Best Global Music Album category, Brazilian legends Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethania took home the award for Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo, leaving Burna Boy’s No Sign of Weakness without a win.

Nigeria, however, recorded a major win at the Grammys, as the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Recording Academy.

With the feat, Fela became the first African musician to receive the Grammys Lifetime Achievement Award.
