Fresh from Coachella, Davido’s international 5IVE Alive Tour and FIFA stages, SayrahChips shaped Adekunle Gold’s entire set, movement direction and visual presentation reports SHOWBIZ AFRIKA.
Professional choreographer, movement coach and stylist, SayrahChips, brought a striking fusion of culture, movement and theatrical storytelling to Adekunle Gold’s Live Orchestra performance at Prudential Hall inside New Jersey Performing Arts Center on July 3.
As the production’s official choreographer, SayrahChips choreographed Adekunle Gold’s entire set, assembled and directed the dance team, and provided movement coaching for the artist.
She also led styling and costumes for the dancers, creating a unified visual language for the show’s orchestral arrangements and Yoruba-rooted musical influences.
When ballet meets fuji
A defining moment placed classical ballet inside the sound and spirit of traditional Yoruba fuji music. The unexpected pairing brought two distinct movement traditions into conversation, creating one of the evening’s most memorable visual statements.
“Choreographing these performances was an incredible experience. One of the most meaningful moments for me was bringing a ballerina into the world of traditional Yoruba fuji music. Fusing those two movement languages felt powerful, unexpected and deeply special. From assembling the dancers to coaching the artist and shaping the movement for the entire set, it was epic production to be part of,” SayrahChips said.
The ensemble featured Esi Samuels, Junior Cius, Skoobi and Caroline Dartey, with Prince Nii serving as assistant choreographer. Additional choreography for a section of “High” was contributed by @delacyn. Rah Dance Collective handled Casting and booking.
The Newark concert marked the North American debut of Adekunle Gold’s full live-orchestra concert series and was one of two North American performances, alongside Toronto.
Following sold-out orchestral presentations in London and Lagos, the cinematic production reimagined songs including Sade, Ire, High and Many People, alongside music from his album, Fuji.
SayrahChips’ landmark year
The Adekunle Gold production continues a major year for SayrahChips. Earlier in 2026, she performed twice at Coachella and completed an international run with Davido’s 5IVE Alive Tour.
She also appeared at the FIFA Fan Festival in Atlanta and Houston and the FIFA World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
