It was a celebration of two remarkable milestones – her 60th birthday and 30 years on stage – as family, friends, fellow gospel artists and fans recently gathered to honour the legacy of music, faith and resilience of Aity Dennis-Inyang aka Mama Aity.
The event, which held at The Megalife Cathedral, Sure Word Assembly, Okota, Lagos, brought together an impressive lineup of guests, including renowned gospel musicians Tope Alabi, Pastor Hope Davies, Buchi, and Praise Machines among others.
The day began with a thanksgiving service in Aity’s honour; followed by a joyous birthday party and musical concert later that evening. The atmosphere was electrifying, filled with praises, worship, laughter and heartfelt tributes to the woman many have come to know as a symbol of dedication and spirit-filled artistry.
Reflecting on her journey, Aity recounted her early struggles in music. “The first time I attended choir practice, I was rejected because they said I didn’t have the voice,” she shared. “But that rejection marked the beginning of something great. Today, I look back and thank God for how far He has brought me.”
Known for her energetic performances, Mama Aity has for three decades thrilled audiences with her unique blend of indigenous Ibibio rhythms and contemporary gospel music. Her ministry is marked not only by her soulful voice and electrifying stage presence, but also by her deep spiritual connection to her roots and her message. Her songs, often born spontaneously during worship, reflect real-life experiences, praise and unwavering faith.
The singer expressed gratitude to her team, especially the Tribe of Judah Choristers, for its remarkable ability to flow with her during live ministrations.
“Sometimes, I receive songs while on stage, and even if the choristers have never heard them before, they follow my lead and deliver the worship seamlessly. That’s the beauty of ministering in spirit and truth,” she noted.
Over the past 30 years, Aity Dennis has released several albums and garnered both national and international gospel music awards. Her music continues to inspire not only in Nigeria, but also among Diaspora communities, spreading messages of hope, love and cultural pride.
Although, the Lagos event was a significant celebration, she revealed that more birthday gatherings are planned for Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and Houston, Texas on different dates, to allow more friends, fans and well wishers partake in her joy.
As Aity danced joyfully during the concert, surrounded by loved ones and worshippers, it was evident that she remains a force in gospel music, an embodiment of purpose, persistence and praise. Her celebration was not just a personal milestone, but a testament to a life lived in worship and dedication to God’s calling through music.
