Chima Udoye has emerged the winner of this year’s edition of the Nigerian Idol music reality show. He was crowned at the grand finale held on July 14, 2024 in Lagos.
The show started with the top 10 contestants taking to the stage to perform John Legend’s Glory. This was immediately followed by the performances of the past winners including Progress and Victory Gbakara.
The night soon got intense with performances from guest artistes like Chike and Simi, followed by the three finalists, with Chima emerging victorious and smiling home with a grand prize of N30 million, brand new SUV, DStv Explora and a year premium subscription. These also include a deal for a record and music video.
Chima is known for his onstage charisma and vocal dexterity that has left the judges – 9ice, Omawumi and Ric Hassani – speechless with every performance.
During the finale, Omawumi pointed out that Chima was in a competition with himself, a true testament to how his rise on the show portrays how much he’s capable of beyond the competition’s boundaries.
Chima, who specializes in jazz and soul music, revealed at the beginning of the show that he would showcase not only his vocal prowess, but also use the Nigerian Idol platform to inspire others. And true to his words, 12 weeks later, he was crowned the winner!
In her remarks at the finale, Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head, Content & Channels, West Africa, MultiChoice, commended Chima for emerging winner while highlighting the resilience it took for him to get to the top spot.
