O’Saunders’ Artisan Collection was the center of attraction at the annual Music Fashion Runway held recently in Lagos.
Inspired by abstract art, The Artisan took inspiration from different artists, with O’Saunders being noted for painting her patches. So, almost 99 percent of the designs on the runway were painted. The garments were wearable visual arts though not for every occasion.
The collection comprised of evening gowns, red carpet, and ready-to-wear pieces, meticulously crafted from rich cotton fabrics. The colours were mostly in black and white, while the paintings spoke through the designs.
Olabisi Saunders, Founder/Creative Director, O’Saunders, said: “Most of my businesses are off white or black. So, the paintings that you see are very colourful.”
O’Saunders’ trademark, Big Sleeves, was conspicuously available though toned down a little bit. “It is still structured, but I toned down on some of my sleeves, which I am known for, and let the paintings speak for me this time around. It is inline with the philosophy of my brand. My niche is still my niche. I am not deviating, just that I little bit toned down my structures, sleeves and patterns,” she explained.
This is the second time O’Saunders is featuring at the annual Music Fashion Runway. She enthused: “It is a lovely experience. I spoke to the producers of the show. They need to do more on marketing or advertising, but it is a wonderful show.”
