Shodex Gardens, located on Ikorodu Road, Lagos, comes alive today as Whispers hits the stage at 30pm for Matinee and 6pm for Command Performance.
This is part of activities heralding TheatreMania Africa Festival (TAF) holding in Lagos from October 14-17, 2025.
The producer of Whispers and CEO, TheatreMania Africa, Mr. Stephen Alayande, said the idea is to have business executives and top CEOs act alongside Nollywood stars, with the aim of driving traffic to the theatre.
The play depicts the current reality of love lust and enmity amongst people. It mirrors the cultural dichotomy and beliefs in the society, issues the Nigerian families have encountered over time as the actors deliver the plot through drama, dance and comedy.
Whispers dwells on the thematic thrusts of love, age-long bitterness, generational family feud, unity, perseverance, diligence, and power play. The audience would hear the whispers of true love, as two families with age-long feud battle the greatest force on earth.
Written by Ola Thompson Tabi and Uwagbai Paul, produced by Stephen Alayande and directed by Uwagbai Paul, Whispers stars Rotimi Adelegan, Otunba Olu Adenodi, Olusola Adekoya, Helen Sosu-Ezirim, Julius Olaoluwa Oyekanmi, and Alayande among others.
“The play is didactic, entertaining, comical, musical in nature, and yet contemporary in terms of its thematic thrust. However, we will be adding a ‘plant a tree’ campaign that dwells on the importance of climate change, as part of the sub-themes,” the producer said.
Also commenting, one of the actors, Olu Adenodi stated, “I last participated in a stage play over 45 years ago when I was in secondary school. So, I’m super excited to be part of Whispers. I’ve been rehearsing seriously. I will implore Lagosians to come out en-masse to watch the stage play at Shodex Gardens come Easter Monday.”
