- Rebranded comedy show hits screen Oct 15
Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP) has introduced a new version of Nigeria’s longest-running comedy series, Papa Ajasco & Company.
And wait for this, Papa Ajasco, the titular and funny character behind the comedy, is now wearing a new look and answering another name: Gen Z Papi.
According to Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP), the changes came after several weeks of media hype across all platforms including radio, television, newspapers, billboards and social media.
On October 15, 2024, the Papa Ajasco & Company: Gen Z Papi TV comedy series would hit the screen nationwide. This new version of the comedy programme follows the main character, Papa Ajasco aka Gen Z Papi as he rises to superstardom as a successful Afrobeats musician while also engaging in rivalry with another musician, Emperor Agu.
Papa Ajasco & Company: Gen Z Papi features the much-loved main characters – Papa Ajasco, Pa James, Mama Ajasco, Boy Alinco and Miss Pepeiye. Also, there are several supporting characters like Jude Chukwuka, Jide Kosoko, Fatai Oodua (Lalude), Francis Odega, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Jaiye Kuti, Nobert Young, Shade Ayinke Ola (Iyalegba), Shirley Igwe, and Oluchi Amajuoyi.
In his remarks, Wale Adenuga Jnr., producer of Papa Ajasco & Company: Gen Z Papi, said since Papa Ajasco & Company television series started airing across Nigeria in 1997, the programme has amassed a very large viewership spanning several generations.
“As the longest-running TV comedy in Nigeria, we have remained popular by always keeping our storylines and production styles fresh and relevant to our viewers of different ages, especially the youth who are the majority of our viewership. This new Gen Z Papi production has received amazing feedback from a sample audience, and we are excited to share it with the world,” he stated.
From October 15, episodes of Papa Ajasco & Company: Gen Z Papi would air weekly to viewers across Nigeria and several parts of Africa on NTA Network (Tuesdays 8pm-8.30pm), STV Network (Saturdays 9pm-9.30pm), and wapTV via DStv 262, StarTimes 116, GOtv 129, FreeTV 751, Play 275 and AVOTV (Tuesdays 8.30pm-9pm); and YouTube at “waptvchannel”.
