With only two weeks to the grand finale, the Nigerian Idol Season 9 continues to gather momentum.
The last episode featured the eviction of one of the top 5 contestants and a double treat of soulful serenades and Naija gbedu, with the remaining contestants performing both Nigerian favourite and R & B song. Rapper, songwriter and record producer, MI Abaga joined the panel as a guest judge to add an extra layer of expertise. However, the show began on a sad note as host IK Osakioduwa announced that Maio had failed to make the top 4, having received the fewest votes out of the 40 million cast the previous week.
The evening's performances started with Chima, who serenaded the audience with Wizkid’s globally acclaimed song, Essence featuring Tems. He later returned to the stage for his second performance, a beautiful rendition of Chaka Khan’s Through the Fire. The judges applauded his growth and outstanding performance streak.
Next, Lammy took the audience back to early 2000 with his performance of the timeless love song, Olufunmi by Style Plus, followed by John Legend’s Ordinary People as his second act. Mira Clear also delivered a great performance of Fave’s Baby Riddim, followed by an exhilarating rendition of Beyoncé’s Broken-Hearted Girl.
Chioma built on her streak with a performance of Chike’s Hard to Find and Rihanna’s Man Down as her second act. Her stage presence and vocal delivery earned her high praise from the judges. At the end of the show, IK announced that two contestants would leave the show, with the last two competing for the grand prize of Nigerian Idol Season 9.
A major highlight of the show was the performance of audience member, Jayford, which turned into a surprise proposal to his girlfriend, Rose. And wait for it. She said ‘yes!’
Following #CHIVIDO24 and #CRAZYABOUTUS24, IK in good spirit tagged their forthcoming nuptials #JoRo. The proposal added an extra layer of excitement and emotion to the evening.
