Grammy-winning Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Tems, will on Thursday, June 18 join music legends Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Bono and Bruce Springsteen to thrill at the grand opening of Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, USA.
The historic event, which commemorates the launch of former US President Barack Obamas presidential complex on Chicagos South Side, will bring together global leaders, changemakers and some of the worlds biggest entertainers.
According to the Foundation, the event will serve as a celebration of democracy, culture, service and hope, and would be live streamed globally from the Centers John Lewis Plaza.
“This Grand Opening ceremony will be unlike any other – filled with music, performances, and hope, Obama Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Valerie Jarrett, said in a statement.
Tems inclusion on the star-studded list of performers further highlights her growing profile on the global stage.
Other performers at the event are Christina Aguilera, Common, The Roots, Eddie Vedder, Jennifer Hudson, Marc Anthony, as well as U2 stars, Bono and The Edge. Actress and producer, Marsai Martin will also feature at the ceremony.
Former First Lady, Michelle Obama, described the Presidential Center as a full circle moment for Chicagos South Side, saying the project transforms a once underutilised space into a hub for history, leadership, education and community engagement.
The Obama Presidential Center will officially open to the public on June 19, with celebrations continuing throughout the Juneteenth weekend.
